A diamond ring for Jai: how to choose?

20th century In the 1930s, De Beers launched a successful advertising campaign. Rings with diamonds have been associated with a symbol of the highest degree of love and commitment. Even now, few jewels can match them. Whether you want to give a ring to your beloved as an expensive gift or as a sign of engagement, we have prepared tips for all occasions.

What are the four C's of diamonds?

The four C's of diamonds are the four main factors that influence the quality and price of a diamond. In short, the better the cut, clarity and color of a diamond, the more valuable and expensive the diamond. More about the 4C system:

- cut: the diamond is cut and shaped so that it shines as brightly as possible. A well-cut diamond reflects light through the top;

- carat: the unit of measurement for the weight of a diamond. A one-carat diamond weighs 200 mg;

- Clarity: diamonds can have internal and external defects. The fewer of them, the better;

- color: the shades of the diamond vary from brown to white. A diamond of the latter color is more valuable.

How to choose the right ring shape?

The different shapes of diamonds are determined by the cut. It affects the appearance, luster and overall value of the gem. Diamonds can be:

- round: the most popular shape of engagement rings. They have a classic, timeless look and a great shine;

- princess-shaped: resembles a square or rectangular shape. It looks modern, contemporary. Famous for its impressive brilliance;

- emerald-shaped: rectangular diamonds with cut corners. Compared to round diamonds, their brilliance is less. However, they are loved for their refined appearance;

- oval: elongated diamonds. When wearing them, your fingers will look visually longer and thinner. Such diamonds have a similar brilliance to round diamonds and are therefore a great alternative;

- pear-shaped: otherwise known as drop-shaped diamonds. Often used in the production of cluster rings to create a striking impression. A cluster ring has multiple diamonds clustered together. There is usually a larger gem in the center surrounded by smaller ones;

- awning shape: the shape resembles a rugby ball. These diamonds are a great choice for those who want a larger looking diamond at a more affordable price;

- heart-shaped: symbolizes love and is perfect for romantic occasions. This is one of the rarest and therefore most unique forms;

- cushion shape: square or rectangular diamonds with rounded edges. They look softer and more ancient than other forms. Perfect for those looking for a vintage looking ring.

What is the best metal to choose?

When choosing a ring with diamonds, the following 4 metal options are the main ones: platinum, white, yellow and red gold. Each metal has unique properties, appearance and appeal.

- Platinum is a durable, hypoallergenic and expensive metal. It is highly resistant to fading and has a bright, white appearance;

- white gold is a cheaper alternative to platinum. A popular choice for those who prefer a white metal. It is usually coated with rhodium to give it a bright white appearance, but the coating needs to be renewed periodically;

- yellow gold - a classic metal, loved for its bright shine. Characteristic of vintage and antique style;

- red gold - a more innovative metal with a warm pink hue. Recently, the demand for red gold rings has been growing rapidly. This is an attractive choice for those looking for a non-traditional ring.

The most suitable carat weights for different occasions

The ideal carat weight for a diamond can vary depending on personal preference, budget and occasion. Here's a guide to help you choose:

- engagement rings: ranging from 0.9 to 1.2 carats;

- wedding rings: have smaller diamonds, from 0.15 to 0.3 carats;

- anniversary rings: usually between 0.5 and 0.7 carats. The more years the couple has been together, the bigger the carat diamond is given;

- eternity rings: a symbol of love and commitment. Can be between 0.15 and 0.5 carats.

How do I find out her ring size?

Asking your sweetheart about her ring size can be tricky if you're planning to surprise her. However, there are some subtle ways to do this. The most important thing is to make the conversation about the rings, not just the size of her finger.

1) Touch the topic of rings during a general conversation. You can mention a friend's recent engagement or wedding and ask your loved one about her ring size.

2) Ask about available rings. You can ask about the rings she wears and mention that you would like to buy one that would fit her perfectly in the future.

3) Take her shopping. Suggest that she try on different ring sizes at the store.

4) Ask if she has ever measured her finger. If she has never had her finger measured, invite her to go to a jewelry store and measure her finger.

5) Put one of her rings on your finger. If you have access to one of her rings, slip it on your finger discreetly and mark where it fits. Alternatively, take the ring to a jewelry store to have it measured there.

How much should you expect to spend on a diamond ring?

A standard ring with a small diamond (0.5-1 carat) and lower clarity and color classes can cost between 500 and 3,000 euros. The price of an engagement ring with a larger diamond and better cut, clarity and color can range from 3,000 to 10,000 euros. The price of a top quality diamond (2-3 carats) ranges from 10,000 to 50,000 euros and more.

It is important to remember that the price of a diamond ring is determined not only by the diamond itself, but also by the design and metal of the jewelry. A custom-made ring with intricate details and high-quality metal will cost significantly more than a standard ring.
